
The Community Development Block Grant Funds are provided by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development are used to improve conditions for city residents especially those of low or moderate income. Their basic goals are to provide decent affordable housing, suitable living environment, recreational opportunities, public services and to expand economic opportunities. McKeesport has focused on 5 broad program areas.
1) Public Improvements including street reconstruction, handicap ramps, catch basins, etc.
2) Housing – Home Ownership and Rehabilitation of homes, Demolition, Rodent Removal, VPRC
3) Public safety – Beat Patrol, After School Programs, etc.
4) Recreation – Parks & Playgrounds
5) Economic Development – Small Business Loans, Main Street, Elm Street, Brownfield Development, Acquisition of Properties.
